How to Make Shakshuka

The first time I was introduced to Shakshuka was about 2 years ago, when I watched a famous chef cook it on a cooking competition show - yes, I watch those, a lot. From that moment, I wanted to try my hand at making it, but for some reason the recipe was daunting to me. I thought it would be overly complicated. BUT, I was wrong. This is actually one of the easiest recipes I’ve shared with you yet!
- Prep Time:
- Cook Time:
- Servings: 4-6
Ingredients
- (6) Fresh Eggs
- (2 TBS) Olive Oil
- (1 Whole, diced) Onion
- (1 Whole, diced) Red Bell Pepper
- (1 28oz can) Can Whole Peeled Tomatoes
- (6-8 cloves, minced) Fresh Garlic
- (2 TBS) Chili Powder
- (2 TBS) Paprika
- (1 TBS) Cumin
- (2 bunches, chopped) Fresh Parsley
- (2 bunches, chopped) Fresh Cilantro
Directions
- Assemble your ingredients and dice your vegetables.
- Bring a medium pan to medium heat and add in the olive oil.
- Toss the onions and peppers in and sauté until they become translucent - about 5-8 minutes.
- Next, add in your minced fresh garlic and your spices - don't be shy with the spices. Bring them all together.
- Pour in your canned tomatoes and break them down with a wooden spoon. Allow this mixture to simmer for a couple minutes to let those flavours develop.
- Use your wooden spoon to create wells for the eggs, and crack each egg into the wells. Cover and let simmer until the eggs are cooked to your liking - about 5-8 minutes.
- Remove from heat and garnish with cheese and fresh herbs. Serve immediately and enjoy!
