Sausage and Cheese Strata

A strata is a hearty egg casserole dish that combines eggs, meat, bread and fresh herbs. Oh, and let’s not forget the cheese! This dish is simple to make, yet you can customize it a dozen different ways, so that your family will never grow tired of it. It’s the perfect meal to warm you up on a cold day! I hope your family enjoys this wholesome casserole!

Ingredients
- (10) Fresh Eggs
- (3 cups) Whole Milk
- (1 tsp) Salt
- (1 tsp) Black Pepper
- (2 tbs) Thyme
- (2 tbs) Oregano
- (1 cup) Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
- (1 1/2 cups) Shredded Sharp Cheddar Cheese
- (1 lb) Seven Sons Ground Pork Sausage
- (1 whole) Onion
- (4-6 cups) Sourdough Bread, cubed
Directions
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees
- Slice bread of choice (I prefer a sourdough or ciabatta bread) into cubes, around 4-6 cups
- Add bread to a cast iron skillet, or 9x13 baking dish, drizzle with olive oil, then place in the oven
- While the bread is toasting, cook your sausage and onion over medium heat
- In a large bowl, whisk together your eggs, milk, salt, pepper, and herbs of choice
- Add 1 cup of mozzarella cheese to the toasted bread, then add in your sausage and onions, stir together
- Pour your egg and milk mixture over top, then top with grated sharp cheddar cheese
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes, then remove foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes or until cooked all the way through
